Low Level/High Level Toilets

Low Level Toilet

The low level toilet has a completely separate cistern and w.c. pan, which are connected by a flush pipe. This type of toilet is typically available in period style, or in a very basic toilet mainly for commercial use.

Buckingham low level toilet This Buchingham is a typical Edwardian style low level toilet. The flush pipe is finished in chrome and the cistern is only available in the lever flush type.

If you are positioning a low level toilet below a window, make sure that the window sill is high enough to allow the cistern to be fixed below.
The flush pipe can normally be cut if it is a little too long for the situation, but shortening by too much will spoil the appearance.

High Level Toilet

The high level is basically the same as the low level toilet, except that the cistern is mounted much higher up, and the flush mechanism is worked by a pull chain. These are only used now in specialist period designs and as such are really only produced in limited numbers.

This Trent Waverley is one of only a few high level toilets still readily available. The flush pipe is chrome, as are the cistern mounting brackets.

The cistern is a lever flush operated by a pull chain.

With both low and high level toilets the water supply normally feeds into the side of the cistern, and an overflow connection is required.
