The back to wall toilet is mostly used
in conjunction with fitted furniture units and is characterised by the
concealed cistern. However if you wish to hide the cistern and the plumbing
completely a false wall can be built to whatever height you desire (the
minimum height being set by the cistern, and usually about 800mm), and
the only visible component is then the actual toilet pan. |

This Mona back to wall pan is shown with some fitted furniture units. The cistern is hidden behind the white panel and can be operated either by push button or a lever (depending on your choice). Access to the cistern for maintenance is either by removing one of the front panels on by a top section which hinges open. |
The back to wall concept is very useful if the toilet is being moved and the new pipe work needs to be surface mounted, as it allows all the plumbing to be concealed either below furniture units or behind a false wall. The concept works very well in an alcove situation, where a low false wall can be built to conceal the cistern, and storage shelving can be fitted above. |

| The Sense back to wall pan illustrated here is shown against a tiled wall which has been constructed to hide the cistern. Again either lever flush or push button flush can be used, but you will need to think carefully about access to the cistern for maintenance. Some cisterns are operated by a flush plate which is removable and big enough to allow access to the cistern. (see wall hung toilets next page.) | ![]() |
